About This Place

Located in the heart of Malang at Jl. Kapten Piere Tendean No.1, Rumah Makan Cairo stands as a remarkable culinary destination for those eager to indulge in authentic Middle Eastern flavors with a delicious local twist. Specializing in Middle Eastern and Indonesian fusion, this restaurant masterfully delivers a range of dishes that highlight robust spices, tender meats, and comforting textures that will delight any food enthusiast.

Renowned for their Sate Kambing dan Nasi Kabuli, Rumah Makan Cairo offers lamb satay that customers describe as tender, juicy, and expertly marinated — each skewer boasting generously sized pieces of meat that are blissfully free from the often overpowering gamey aroma typical of lamb. The satay’s coating of a sweet, delicate peanut sauce elevates every bite, creating a perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet notes. Complement this with their Nasi Goreng Kambing, a savory fried rice loaded with tender lamb shank bits, and you have a hearty, soulful meal brimming with rich, satisfying flavors.

For those looking for lighter or breakfast options, Rumah Makan Cairo delights with specialties such as Roti Maryam and Martabak Mesir, which are intricately flaky, buttery, and subtly sweet. These breads and pancakes make for a comforting morning treat paired wonderfully with their signature Wedang Pokak, a traditional spiced ginger tea that warms the senses with its aromatic, soothing qualities.

The dining atmosphere here is best described as cozy and unpretentious, echoing its reputation as a beloved local spot with a rich history. It’s a place where the genuine warmth of traditional Middle Eastern hospitality shines through, inviting diners to slow down and savor every flavor. While the popularity of Rumah Makan Cairo means wait times can be longer and parking somewhat challenging, patrons like Astari Astari remind us that the culinary rewards far outweigh the few inconveniences. This is a restaurant where patience is richly rewarded with authentic dishes crafted with care and respect for tradition.

Many patrons, including Ferry Gondo and Donny Juhari, rave about the lamb satay’s quality and taste, underscoring the consistent excellence that Rumah Makan Cairo maintains. It’s clear that the chefs here know their craft, blending time-honored recipes with fresh ingredients to create memorable experiences that keep food lovers returning. As Yongki Kristanto aptly puts it, this is the best goat satay in Malang, carrying the legacy of recipes passed down through generations.

Whether you’re a Middle Eastern cuisine aficionado or simply in search of a hearty, flavorful meal that tells a story through every bite, Rumah Makan Cairo is an essential stop. Its unique blend of savory lamb dishes, aromatic spices, and lovingly prepared traditional snacks creates a dining experience that leaves a lasting impression on both palate and heart.

Tried the lamb satay and Samih Fried Rice. The lamb skrewer was very soft and juicy. Dressed with sweet and light peanut sauce. The rice was very savory. With a bits of lamb shanks. A hearty meal indeed.

Delicious food that is worth the price. However, it takes quite some time to serve the food and quite a struggle to find a parking space for cars. If you are patient and willing to walk, then you are good to go

The lamb satay is excellent, somehow the meat does not smell like usual lamb meat. It was tender and juicy with quite a big piece on each of the skewers. Overall the lamb satay is a bit pricey.

The glass for goat milk was huge it's nice because i accidentally put too much chilli for my curry. They use regular rice grain instead of basmati for nasi kebuli but it's still very tasty. The goat meat there cooked until tender, so the meal was superb
